Hand-Up Handoffs

Mail Time! Oh, how DeSmet distance runners love the prerace Mailbox. An easy 3 miles to get ready for a race is always a great practice. Today's Mailbox was the first ever legit speed skating. It went pretty well. The rules seemed to work and the participants enjoyed the game. The guys not racing tomorrow had to come back and do an extra mile on the track followed by strides. The guys racing had 2 laps of in-and-outs and handoffs (oh yeah!). The new hand up approach was quickly grasped by some—Boyle , Potter—while others struggled—little OC. All this was in preparation for MCC Relays tomorrow. We have the 4xmile, freshmen-sophomore 4x800, varsity 4x800, and DMR.

What to watch for in the meet tomorrow: Seiler's first ever double; the OC brother's handoff in the 4xmile; the DMR squad one year after setting a conference record.

Best Dressed: We have our first ever co-champs. It takes extreme skill, precision, and coordination (or dumb luck) to become co-champions. The two guys to do it were... The Coaches. Coach Traughber and Coach Leeman both had it going today. Both had the classic DeSmet Cross Country shirt but in different colors with different DeSmet shorts. And to top it off, they were both wearing similar Saucony shoes: T-bone in orange & the Milk Man in blue. Hopefully the coaches inspire the rest of the team to dress to impress as they did.

I would like to thank Kevin Abernathy for his outstanding display of what it means to be a man for other. Unfortunately my car did not have enough energy to start up after practice. Me and Matt searched high and low, looking for someone to help us jump start it. I stumbled across Kabes in Emerson and told him about the dilemma. Without missing a beat, Kevin sprung into action to fix the problem. Without Abernathy, i would have been stuck at school all night. Kevin Abernathy= Spartan of the Week
