The Calm Before The Storm

Not pictured Coach Russo - Blue Norte Dame

After receiving our jerseys it was off to the track for practice. Today’s practice was the same for every guy on the team. It was a practice of the pre-race warm up. It went really well. Most of us are focused and ready to go for tomorrow’s meet. Beers did an excellent job ringing in the bell lap on the 2 mile warm-up. During the warm-up we were accompanied by a surprise guest, Mr. Fior. He was one day the curve as he had on Brazil soccer shorts.

Please note the redesigned title for this week thanks to Padre the Sailor Man.

Remember to wear your meet day shirt tomorrow.

Quote of the Day: “We need the Blanche Funnel!”- kabes in the locker room as we were filling bottles with Gatorade after practice.

Jersey Week: Rest Day. Check the tomorrow’s Meet Post for Thursday’s sport.

Best Dressed: Today was football day as jersey week continued. It was great to remember The Greatest Show on Turf days as all the key members had at least one jersey being worn. This is just a warning. Kabes comes to win every day. Although he finished in third today, most days a St. Louis native Trent Green jersey and Chiefs helmet would come out on top. But Brian Scherping and John "Bulldog" Madey brought out the old school jerseys. Scherps finishes second with his pop's high school jersey and Canada shorts. Very close call, but the Bulldog comes out on top. Long story short, John was wearing the jersey that was dedicated to former MICDS coach Ron Holtman after he passed away. Mr. Holtman lived next to John as he was growing up, and along with his dad, helped develop John's passion for sports. Congrats Bulldog

Tomorrow is the first race of the year, so M.T.B.L. was on location for pre race day coverage. We were able to sit down with Senior Jacob Seiler and Sophomore Mike Callahan.

Senior Jacob Seiler has been on varsity for parts of going on three years now. But this time, there is no one named Connor or Zach to lead the way from day 1. How will it be different?

"I must say that it indeed has been a change not having any older runners to look up to each day. However as my fellow seniors and I take up their responsibilities there is a sense of accomplishment seeing the team develop. Being a pure bred runner, my wisdom and knowledge has greatly grown thanks to the seniors before me."

Jacob also talked about how important the Nike meet is.
"The first meet is extremely important if not tangibly then in terms of team mentality. If we start the season with a bad showing, then it kills the team morale. Also De Smet is the two time defending champion, so pressure is on the varsity for the 3 peat."

Sophmore Mike Callahan will make his varsity debuet tomorow. Last year he took on the role of freshman leader. He talks about how it will be different to start the year.
"Instead of being a leader, I have to become more of a follower. I feellike I have to represent the sophmore class well."

Mike is known for having a plan to the maddness. Mike shared how he is going to attack Fenton City Park.

"I am going to take down Fenton City Park by by running the first mile sub 5:37 then coming home in 5:32. Maybe closer to 2 5:30s. I think the varsity team will be finishing in the top two at worst."

Juniors Josh Pribe and Steve Placht could not be reached for comment....

Good luck to all those competing tomorow. Plenty of coverage from Fenton City Park to come.

  4. I would like to mention that lil OC and Glen both had excellent days as well. Full Florida for Matt. Glen had old-school Rams Pace jersey with perfect matching yellow shorts. Potter may have overlooked you but I didn’t.
